In recent years, considerable research has been carried out on the action of specific lights on skin rejuvenation, tissue biostimulation and the treatment of dermatological pathologies such as acne, pre-cancerous skin lesions and nonmelanoma skin tumours, as well as to treat muscle pain, neuralgia, myalgia, arthralgia and trophic disorders. Through photo-oxidation, high intensity BLUE light (420+/-5nm) causes a decrease in the bilirubin in serum, which is broken down into non-toxic, water soluble products that can easily be eliminated by the kidneys with a consequent photo-rejuvenation activity. It also seems to be particularly effective in treating acne, determining a local photostimulating reaction that produces free radicals that destroy bacteria in the pilosebaceous follicles without damaging healthy surrounding cells. There are no known side effects.

INFRARED treatment uses electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength that is above 780nm; generally, IR frequencies with a wavelength of 780 - 1400nm (IRA) are used. Infrared light transforms into thermal energy on the upper layers of the skin by absorption and only a small part is reflected. Pulsed light is more effective than continuous light as it produces a much higher quantity of photons.

Blue light for effective biostimulation on moderate acne and skin ageing and to favour healing processes Phototherapy uses a selective non-coherent light produced by LED. In more advanced systems, it uses plasma light more powerful than the above and with light bands capable of interacting with pathological tissues on several levels.

How it works

Light, in particular intense blue light with infrareds, has the ability to selectively destroy tissue that has previously been treated with a photosensitizing agent (ALA). Blue light used with infrareds has proved extremely effective in the treatment of moderate forms of acne and against skin ageing, to speed up the postsurgery healing of wounds, after peeling treatments and laser surgery and in the treatment of skin ulcers. This can be done without an activator (ALA), exploiting the ability of infrared light to improve tissue metabolism and that of blue light to bind the bacteria that cause acne and are responsible for the inflammatory phases of the illness, reducing it considerably.

Indications

Acne-Photo-ageing, even if advanced, with the presence of pre-cancerous skin lesions (actinic keratosis) - Wound healing processes - Ulcers-Skin biostimulation for the reduction of healing time after laser and peeling treatments, etc.

Side effects

For phototherapy with the use of a photosensitizer cycles last 2-3 sessions at a distance of 2-4 weeks for acne, photo-ageing and tumours other than melanoma. In this case, recovery time is 2-3 days, with reddening and sometimes oedemas in the area treated. Exposure to light should be avoided for 48 hours after treatment. Phototherapy without an activator requires 10-session cycles (twice a week) and does not cause any kind of post-treatment problem.
